Item 5:
I engage student interest with every lesson
Supporting Quotes
“Instead of coming right out and providing students with the answers, you can build suspense, piquing students’ natural curiosity as you guide them, one interesting plot twist after another, to the key knowledge or insight you want them to learn” (Goodwin & Hubbell, 2013)

“The level of challenge is also affected if the task was perceived as interesting and engaging. Here the clear focus on the target knowledge with no superfluous text made the task manageable and therefore interesting to the student.”(Nyman, 2016)

Application
My classes are held mostly in a Socratic style, applying open-ended questions to all exercises. In order to ensure comprehension and engagement during question completion, I use inquiry and require step-by-step explanations, reasoning, and teach-backs. Ethan stays engaged, and can achieve the confidence and mastery that he desires.
